After arriving at Vallarta Mexico, professional golfer Wesley Bryan discovered that he wouldn’t play at the last minute. The YouTube golf star was hoping for an opening after someone dropped out, but the opportunity did not present itself here. He would react to the event through a tweet regarding the event.
Update:
Flew to Mexico. Didn’t get in the tournament as an alternate. Bummer.
Up next: maybe @the_cognizant, fingers crossed
Hope to see y’all next week in Palm Beach Gardens
End of update.

Why Won’t Wesley Bryan be Playing
Wesley Bryan did at one point have a PGA Tour card but had to relinquish it last year after barely missing the cut during the RSM Classic, his brother who co-hosts their YouTube channel did manage to claim the last spot. He does occasionally play in PGA tournaments though. He does this by getting himself on a waitlist and waiting for someone to drop out. In the past, this has worked out in his favor. Bryan has recently played in the Farmers Insurance Open where he tied for 25th.
This time there just was not a withdrawal of another player. All who signed up were present and playing. Bryan arrived at the course with an unconfirmed position geared up and ready to play for the purse and a trophy, and walked away with neither. Not even the chance to swing his club. The whole situation was clearly disappointing for him as his chance to once again play among world-famous professionals was lost by no fault of his own, but just by circumstance.
How Did Wesley Bryan React
In a fashion that is often hard to find online, Wesley Bryan reacted with a degree of class to the situation. He blamed no one but himself, reminding people of how he planned on getting in. He then teased the possibility of playing in the Cognizant Classic. Bryan fully acknowledged his fault and didn’t try to stir anything up. So often when something like this gets attention it usually results in the personality in question blaming the event organizers. Then later coming out with a half-hearted apology. Wesley Bryan didn’t do that and kept his head on his shoulders. He only said what was necessary while taking all the blame.
Going Forward
As the Mexico Open continues without Wesley Bryan, he will watch from the sidelines. Throughout 2025 he plans on making his way through events by being an alternate any chance he gets. It has worked out great for him in the past despite the year still being young, and it will most likely work out again for him in the future. It looks like he is prepared for some pleasant surprises and also some disappointments given his current standing in the PGA.
