Once his bitter rival, Jorge Masvidal is sending his best to Ben Askren.
Masvidal and Askren competed at UFC 239 in July 2019 in one of the most anticipated and heated bouts of the card. In the featured bout of that event, Masvidal delivered a record-breaking five-second flying knee knockout of Askren, and delivered some additional punishment while he was at it.
With Askren going through serious health issues stemming from double pneumonia, and recently speaking on camera for his social media followers earlier this week, Masvidal is rooting for Askren to pull through so they can officially bury the hatchet forever.
“What’s up, my brother?,” Masvidal said on Instagram. “I know we were rivals in the ring. I just want to say, God bless you. And when I get back in America, if I can come shake your hand, brother, and just say a prayer with you, it will be amazing, man.”
Both fighters have since retired from MMA, but the rivalry never really went away since the iconic knockout win that catapulted Masvidal to superstardom.
“Gamebred” says he’s found newfound inspiration from his former opponent and enemy, and hopes to show his appreciation the first chance he gets.
“I know you’re going to pull through this because you’re a f*cking warrior, brother,” Masvidal said. “God bless. Your story is crazy inspirational what you’re going through right now. God bless you, and I’m hoping to get back and just be able to shake your hand.
“I hope all is well, brother.”
