Temba Bavuma stunned the crowd and shifted momentum with a breathtaking six off Australian skipper Pat Cummins during the 35th over of South Africa’s innings in the WTC 2025 Final. A cleanly struck pull not only cleared the boundary with ease but also ended in a moment of brilliance off the field, as a fan grabbed a stunning catch deep in the stands.

Temba Bavuma’s towering six against Pat Cummins and a brilliant crowd catch

Cummins, steaming in with typical aggression, banged the ball in at chest height, angling it just outside off. Bavuma, alert and balanced, immediately picked up the length and used his quick reflexes to swivel across. With full control of the shot, he unleashed a towering pull over deep square leg. The ball soared high into the London sky, drawing gasps from the crowd as it rocketed into the stands.

Not only was the connection crisp, but the elevation and timing were sublime, evidence of Bavuma’s growing authority at the crease. As the ball descended rapidly, it appeared destined to crash into the seating area, but an Australian fan, seated eight rows back, reached up instinctively and plucked it cleanly out of the air. The catch was applauded all around, and even the players acknowledged the spectator’s effort. The moment perfectly captured the blend of on-field excellence and crowd involvement that defines the spirit of Test cricket at its finest.

WTC 2025 Final: Australia on top as South Africa slip to 94/5 on Day 2 at Lord’s

The ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 at Lord’s has unfolded dramatically over the first four sessions, tilting in Australia’s favour by early Day 2. After being bundled out for 212 on Day 1, largely due to a sensational five-wicket haul from Kagiso Rabada, Australia have bounced back strongly with the ball. South Africa, in reply, are reeling at 94/5 in 41 overs, still trailing by 118 runs. Their innings began with a collapse as Mitchell Starc struck early, dismissing both Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton.

Cummins added further damage, removing Wiaan Mulder and captain Bavuma, who was the only batter to show some resilience with a gritty 36 off 84 balls that included a towering six off Cummins. Tristan Stubbs also fell cheaply to Josh Hazlewood. Only David Bedingham, unbeaten on 24, has shown some application, holding the fort alongside wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne. Australia’s disciplined pace attack, led by Mitchell Starc, Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, operated with control and accuracy on a helpful surface. With the ball still relatively new and the pitch offering variable bounce, South Africa face an uphill task to avoid conceding a significant first-innings lead.
