Sinner stops Novak in Wimbledon semi-final – Novak Djokovic

Alcaraz vs Sinner, Wimbledon Final, By the Numbers

Day Nine at Wimbledon unfolded without much drama, but with plenty of quality, as Taylor Fritz and Carlos Alcaraz both moved into the semi-finals in straightforward fashion.

Fritz saw off Karen Khachanov in four sets, producing two dominant opening sets, navigating a mid-match lapse, and finishing the job in a composed tiebreak to reach his first Wimbledon semi-final. The American’s strong grass-court form continues, though a taped-up foot remains something to watch going forward.

On Centre Court, Carlos Alcaraz ended Cameron Norrie’s run with a routine 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 win. The defending champion was clinical from start to finish, never allowing the Brit a foothold in the match as he extended his unbeaten streak at SW19 to 13.

Here’s everything that happened on a straightforward but decisive Day Nine.

Fritz Conquers Khachanov

Taylor Fritz overcame past Wimbledon quarter-final setbacks on Tuesday, defeating Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4) on No. 1 Court to reach his first SW19 semi-final.

The American hasn’t done well in his previous attempts. His loss of Rafael Nadal in 2022 was particularly disappointing, but he stayed composed in a 2-hour, 36-minute battle.

Fritz controlled the first two sets, holding serve without threat, but Khachanov surged back, dominating the third set with five straight games.

After a medical timeout to retape his right foot, Fritz dropped serve early in the fourth. But he broke back and had Khachaov on the ropes when leading 5-4, 15-30, with only a clutch volley preventing him from holding two match points.

Khachanov held; however, Fritz played a composed tiebreak, avoiding another five-set marathon to book his spot in Friday’s semi-final.

Fritz has been one of the form players during the grass swing with two titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne and he’s played a great tournament with two very tricky players in his first two matches. How big a problem his foot is remains to be seen

I’m feeling great to get through it. I feel like the match was going so well for me for two sets. I’ve never had a match really just flip so quickly, so I’m really happy with how I came back in the fourth set and got it done. I think the momentum was definitely not going to have been on my side going into a fifth. He definitely started playing a bit better, but I feel like I gave him a lot of hope by playing not the best game to start the third set for me. I’ve never really had a match change like that so drastically, where I felt so in control, playing great, serving great. I didn’t feel like my serve was in danger, I felt like I was putting all the pressure on his serve and then out of nowhere I just started making a tonne of mistakes. Before I felt like I couldn’t miss, and all of a sudden, I’m making a tonne of mistakes and he’s putting all the balls in play. I really just had to fight to get that break back in the fourth and just get the match back to neutral. Fritz on his win.

Alcaraz Dismantles Norrie

alcaraz wimbledonalcaraz wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz took a decisive step toward a third straight Wimbledon title on Tuesday, easing past British hope Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 to secure his place in the semi-finals.

Alcaraz hasn’t had it all his way during his opening three matches, but I struggled to see where Norrie could hurt him other than with his work rate, and that proved correct as Carlos delivered a clinical 1-hour, 39-minute performance, erasing all five break points faced.

Overall, he won 89% of first-serve points, hit 13 aces, and overwhelmed Norrie, who battled to outlast the Spaniard from the baseline but couldn’t cope with Alcaraz’s all-around game, which featured 31 net points, of which he won 22.

Norrie played plenty of decent points, and opted for the old-school leftie serve by standing near the doubles alley but he had to work overtime to win points.

I’m just really happy to be able to play another semi-final here at Wimbledon. It’s something really special and something that I wanted to do at the beginning of the week. I’m really happy with the level that I played today against a difficult player like Cam. I’m pretty sure that there is nobody working harder than him, so I’m happy to see him playing these kinds of matches Alcaraz on his win.
