Will Nikola Jokic Returning During Upcoming Homestand?

Nikola Jokic is expected to return to the Denver Nuggets’ lineup at some point during their upcoming five-game homestand, though his status for the immediate future remains uncertain. The two-time MVP has missed the Nuggets’ last four games due to a left ankle impingement, and head coach Michael Malone stated that Jokic will not be playing in Monday’s home game against the Chicago Bulls. “We’re just trying to get home and kind of see where he’s at,” Malone said after Denver’s 116-111 victory over the Houston Rockets on Sunday, their first win after two consecutive losses.

Jokic’s absence has not stopped the Nuggets from staying competitive, but they remain in third place in the Western Conference, just behind the Rockets. With the playoffs approaching, the team’s primary goal is to ensure Jokic is fully healthy for the postseason. Malone emphasized the importance of getting the starting lineup some time together, as the Nuggets haven’t had many opportunities to play at full strength this season. The team’s chances of a successful playoff run largely depend on the health of their superstar center, whose absence highlights the need for Jamal Murray and other key players to step up.

While Jokic has not played since March 15, when he posted an almost triple-double against the Washington Wizards, the Nuggets’ upcoming homestand offers a potential opportunity for his return. Jokic has been dealing with both an ankle impingement and a right elbow contusion, though the latter injury has not been a significant concern recently. In his absence, Aaron Gordon made his return to the court after missing several games with lower leg issues, and Jamal Murray was back after sitting out two games due to an ankle injury.

Malone has stated that while Jokic may miss Monday’s game, there is hope that he will be back during the Nuggets’ homestand, which could allow the team to get some much-needed chemistry before the playoffs. Denver’s primary goal remains ensuring that Jokic is fully healthy and ready to lead them into the postseason, as his presence is crucial for the Nuggets’ chances of advancing.
