Eagles claim 2024 draft pick off waivers from Jaguars [UPDATE]

Makayla Timpson, a phenomenal forward from Florida State University, got picked 19th by the Indiana Fever in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

The defensive skills and rebounding talent of Timpson and her strong roster presence make her a suitable partner for rising star Caitlin Clark at the Fever.

Makayla Timpson’s Journey from College to the WNBA

Timpson was born on September 20, 2002 in Edison, Georgia. She was raised in a supportive family environment. Her upbringing was greatly influenced by both her parents, Rena and Eric Timpson. Eric was Timpson’s first coach in basketball, and he was also a pastor.

Rena Timpson instilled discipline and focused goals for Timpson in all aspects of living, not just basketball. Timpson graduated from Early County High School in 2021. She earned several accolades, including First-Team All-State honors in 2019.

Off the court, she pursued a degree in psychology. Timpson played four seasons of elite collegiate basketball at Florida State University, where she’ll go down as one of the best to play in the program’s history.

Timpson is now the all-time leader in double-doubles for FSU with 47 over her career. In her senior season of 2022-2023, Timpson averaged 17.5 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game.

Those stats highlighted her adaptability and ability to impact the game on the inside. Timpson was named First Team All-ACC 2x and earned ACC All-defensive team selection three times. The contributions of Timpson helped lead the Seminoles to a 24-9 record and a second round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Timpson’s Role with the Indiana Fever

Timpson’s transition to the WNBA marks a significant step in her basketball journey. Standing at 6-foot-2 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, she brings a unique combination of size and agility to the Fever’s frontcourt.

General Manager Amber Cox expressed enthusiasm about the selection, stating:

“Makayla Timpson is someone that we had really high on our draft board, so when she fell to us at 19, we were thrilled.”

Timpson’s defensive capabilities will add to the Fever’s existing roster consisting of players such as Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. Her ability to block shots and rebound will be the essentials needed as the team continues on the heels of an established playoff appearance.

Timpson’s level of experience and diligent work ethic places her well as a possible contributor in the Fever’s push for success. The indications show that as Timpson embarks on her professional career, there are many promising days ahead.

In conclusion, Timpson’s accomplishments in college as a player, and her personal foundation make her the right choice for Indiana Fever players and coaches as they look to have Timpson make an impact both on and off the court this season and beyond.

Her addition will bring an exciting opportunity for many, with skill and determination at the highest levels.
