White Sox’s Adrian Houser vomits in dugout, stays in for win

Adrian Houser hurled again — on the mound and off it.

Amid a strong season with the White Sox, the righty vomited inside the dugout on Wednesday but stayed in the game to throw up a victory at Guaranteed Rate Field.

“Adrian Houser had an issue going into the White Sox dugout, and I guess he lost his lunch, so to speak,” White Sox radio announcer Len Kasper said, per Sports Illustrated. “But that is not uncommon for Adrian Houser. For whatever reason, he gets an upset stomach.”

Houser heaved a scoreless first inning against the Blue Jays, but he let it fly shortly after returning to the dugout.

A repeat regurgitator, Houser forewarned the training staff about his brewing barf.

“Oh yeah, that’s probably about the fifth time,” Houser said Wednesday after tossing seven innings and allowing just one earned run in a 2-1 win.

“So that’s nothing new. The trainers knew. I told them when I came in. I was like, ‘Hey, this is a possibility.’ So once I get it out, it’s all good. Ready to rock and roll. I felt a lot better after it. So I was able to settle in after that and just, you know, puke and rally.”

Before this incident, he threw up twice during a June 2018 game against the Phillies.

“For Adrian today, it was just kind of a combination of a bunch of factors,” then-Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell told reporters at the time. “He wasn’t under the weather at all, but it was an early wake-up call, not enough food, heat, probably a little nerves from getting to the big leagues today.”

Houser did it again the following season, blowing chunks — moments after he committed an error — during an August game against the Rangers.

“Honestly, I don’t know how to explain it,” he told reporters after that game. “Probably just sick with myself for not making that play.”

Houser stayed in both games despite painting the mound.

The 32-year-old is now enjoying a career renaissance in the Windy City, posting a 5-2 record with a 1.56 ERA across nine starts.

Houser was designated for assignment by the Mets last season after posting a disappointing 5.84 ERA in seven appearances following an offseason trade from the Brewers.

After being let go by the Amazin’s, Houser spent time in Triple-A with the Cubs, Orioles and Rangers.

Houser was called up by the White Sox on May 20, and his strong season could make him a solid candidate to be dealt at the trade deadline by the AL Central cellar-dweller.
