There are many MLB fans wondering what the Chicago White Sox will do in 2025 after posting the worst record in the league last season at 41-121. Chicago can’t get any worse than last year, but the White Sox are still projected to be one of the league’s worst teams this season.

Chicago will need to show signs of progress under first-year manager Will Venable, who is eager to begin his new role in 2025.

White Sox GM Chris Getz Has Bold Prediction for 2025 Season

White Sox general manager Chris Getz will enter his third season with the franchise in the front office. In that time, he’s made several trades, acquiring a number of prospects from other teams. And as a result, Chicago has six prospects in MLB.com’s Top 100.

Recently, Getz spoke with Mark DeRosa of MLB Network about the upcoming 2025 season. While discussing those trades, Getz made a bold prediction for the 2025 season, saying, “I wouldn’t be surprised if [Luis Robert Jr.] garners some MVP votes.”

In the past, there have been players who didn’t make the playoffs but still garnered MVP votes — but this prediction takes it to another level.

Last season, Luis Robert Jr. played 100 games for the White Sox. The 27-year-old had a batting average of .224 and finished with 14 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases. Robert had an on-base percentage of 27.8% and was caught stealing on six occasions.

Following what is no more than an ordinary season, Getz must believe Robert will make a big leap in 2025.

However, Robert is unlikely to receive MVP votes in the American League this season. Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson are expected to be among the MVP candidates. Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is another strong contender. Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels could also be in the mix if he stays healthy for the entire season.

Quite simply, Robert still isn’t on the level of those players. It’s good that Getz is showing support for his players, but Chicago has a long way to go before it starts competing for titles and individual accolades.
