What it would take for Aaron Rodgers to retire with the Packers

In the past, we have discussed the Miami Dolphins’ Ring of Honor and who should be future additions to the list of 24 players and two head coaches currently in the Ring of Honor. The last inductee was former Dolphins defensive tackle Tim Bowens, who was honored late last season at halftime against the Arizona Cardinals. Before Bowens’ induction, the previous addition went back to 2014, when another former defensive tackle, Manny Fernandez, was inducted.

Beyond the ring of honor, the Miami Dolphins bestow an even bigger honor on former players. That’s the honor of having their jersey number retired by the team, meaning no other player will ever wear that number again unless the team, the player, and/or their family make an exception. A good example of the kind of exception that might occur at some point was when former Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) quarterback Warren Moon showed up at former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward’s introduction ceremony for the Titans, where he gave Ward his new jersey with his formerly returned number 1 on it.

The list of “officially retired Miami Dolphins jersey numbers is short-

#12 (Bob Griese): Retired in 1982

#13 (Dan Marino): Retired in 2000

#39 (Larry Csonka): Retired in 2002

Two other players have their numbers unofficially retired, as no one has been assigned them since their playing days with the team-

#54 (Zach Thomas): While not formally retired, no other player has worn this number since Thomas retired.

#99 (Jason Taylor): No other player has worn this number since Taylor’s departure.

So tonight’s question of the day is:

What other players, if any, should have their former jersey numbers retired by the Miami Dolphins in the future, and why?
