Rory McIlroy put on a show for the ages, delivering an incredible back-nine scoring burst to secure a commanding victory in his first start of this season’s PGA Tour events at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
The victory at Pebble Beach marked McIlroy’s 27th PGA Tour title and his first of the season. The win moves him to 22nd on the PGA Tour’s all-time wins list, leaving him just one victory shy of Paul Runyan and Leo Diegel, who are tied in 20th place.
What’s Next for Rory McIlroy Following Pebble Beach Victory?
McIlroy and Boston Common Golf Handed Loss
McIlroy’s team, Boston Common Golf, looked to bounce back from their defeat to Jupiter Links GC when they took on Los Angeles Golf Club on February 4, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. (EST) in the fifth match of the TGL season.
LAGC took an early first-hole lead and didn’t look back. After winning the hammer early, they never needed it after a 3-0 early lead after three holes. One storyline worth noting is how cold Boston’s putters were. Only a single putt was made greater than three feet—and that was in the first hole!
Another Major Title And World Number One Spot?
Rory McIlroy’s 2025 season is shaping up to be an exciting one and fans will be looking forward to seeing him at his best. The Northern Irishman is full of confidence as he sets his sights on the year’s biggest prizes. He’ll be looking to make the most of his momentum from his Pebble Beach victory as he chases his fifth major title and a return to the world No. one spot.
Genesis Invitation Showdown Looms
Mcllroy is also set to compete in the Genesis Invitational, scheduled to take place from February 13-16. He will also be setting his sights on the Masters at Augusta National in April. A win at the Masters would secure his fifth major and complete his career Grand Slam.
McIlroy will also be competing in a range of other high-profile events such as the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and The Open. He’ll also be representing Europe in the Ryder Cup in September, where he’ll be determined to help his team regain the trophy.
McIlroy’s victory at Pebble Beach boosted his ranking in the European Ryder Cup standings, as he leapfrogged Tyrrell Hatton to reclaim the top qualifying spot.
A More Selective Schedule in 2025
McIlroy’s scheduled events for 2025 are expected to be around 20, a significant reduction from the 27 events he featured in last year. He will be hard-pressed to match the fifth overall in the 2024 PGA money list. The DP World Tour Championship in November will round out the year for McIlroy and he will be looking to finish the season on a high note. He’ll be competing against many of the world’s top players, and a strong performance will be important in maintaining his position at the top of the golfing world.
