The race for Malick Thiaw is heating up, with West Ham United set to face stiff competition from Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.

According to Milan-News, West Ham are seriously eyeing a move for AC Milan’s 22-year-old centre-back this summer. However, interest from Germany could complicate their pursuit, with Bayern and Leverkusen both tracking the highly-rated defender.

West Ham See Thiaw as Key to Defensive Reinforcements

The Hammers are preparing to back new manager Graham Potter with significant investment, and strengthening the backline is a clear priority. Thiaw, a commanding presence for Milan this season, has emerged as a prime target to shore up their defensive frailties after a lacklustre domestic campaign.

Although West Ham are safe from relegation, their inconsistent performances have triggered a push for a summer rebuild — and Thiaw is seen as a cornerstone for that plan.

Bayern and Leverkusen Could Derail Hammers’ Plans

But West Ham won’t have it easy. Bayer Leverkusen are already scouting replacements for Jonathan Tah, and Thiaw fits their mould perfectly as they aim to remain title challengers in the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, could lose Kim Min-Jae and view Thiaw as a potential successor. The lure of joining Germany’s most successful club could prove hard to resist.

With interest mounting, AC Milan’s valuation will be key in deciding Thiaw’s next move — and West Ham must act fast to stay in the race.
