According to the Guardian, West Ham are interested in signing Angel Gomes from LOSC Lille this summer. The 24-year-old midfielder was previously linked with Tottenham Hotspur, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United believed to be monitoring his situation as well.
Gomes is set to become a free agent as his contract at Lille expires at the end of the season and is said to be looking for a new challenge. Hammers boss Graham Potter, who has identified the midfield section of his squad as the one in greatest need for reinforcements, wants a player in the No. 6 role who can help his team control possession, and believes the four-cap England international is the right man for the job.
Gomes rose through the academy ranks at Manchester United, and having left Old Trafford for Lille in 2020, he spent the following season on loan with Portuguese side Boavista. This season, he’s made a total of 14 appearances for the Ligue 1 side so far, scoring twice and contributing one assist.
