UFC star and light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira reunited with a fan who fought a battle with cancer and came out on top.
“Poatan” shared a video on his Instagram of his reunion with Australian fan Ashton Choothesa, who asked Pereira back in July to shave his head during a visit to The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Pereira was overwhelmed with emotion, but is now feeling proud to see that Choothesa has now been cancer free for three months.

“I am not an example of how to overcome obstacles as difficult as cancer, but here I bring you an example of someone who overcame cancer,” Pereira wrote.
One of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, Pereira was a Fighter of the Year contender in 2024 with a trio of title defense knockouts against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300, Jiri Prochazka in a rematch at UFC 303, and Khalil Rountree in his most recent bout at UFC 307 in October.
Pereira is now set to defend his light heavyweight championship against top contender Magomed Ankalaev in the main event of UFC 313. The promotion’s next pay-per-view event takes place March 8 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
