As India faces England in a much-anticipated five-match Test series, the buzz isn’t just about the players who are in action but also about one of the modern era’s legends, Virat Kohli. However, Virat Kohli officially retired from Test cricket, but he is still making headlines for the quiet life he’s chosen just a few miles from the action in London.

There are hopes that the dashing right-hander will cheer for the Indian cricket team from the stands as they are scheduled to play two Tests at Lord’s and Headingley, which are not much farther from where he lives, after skipping the WTC Final 2025 and the “World Cricket Connects” conference.

Virat Kohli lives quietly in London as Team India begin the Test series without him

The former Indian skipper Virat Kohli is currently living in London with his wife, Anushka Sharma, and their two children. Far from the spotlight, Kohli has embraced a calm and low-key lifestyle in the heart of Notting Hill, and that’s the main reason behind him moving to England.

According to The Telegraph, Kohli has kept his distance from all things related to cricket since moving to England. He didn’t attend the World Test Championship final, nor did he show up at the high-profile MCC “World Cricket Connects” symposium, both of which took place near his new home.

Virat Kohli unlikely to attend India vs England Test series

Locals occasionally spot the right-handed batter strolling the streets, enjoying coffee at cafés, or even taking the London Underground. Such things would be nearly impossible for Kohli to do back in India. For the Indian batting superstar, London has become a peaceful escape, where he can live like just another person, free from the constant attention of fans and media.

The report also claimed that Kohli is highly unlikely to attend any of India’s five Test matches in England because he distanced himself from the game and the limelight. Recently, English county club Middlesex reportedly showed interest in signing Kohli for the season, but the Indian batter hasn’t shown any interest in taking up the offer.

Virat Kohli eyes ODI return in August after RCB’s IPL triumph ends in tragedy

His last appearance in action was during the IPL 2025, where he helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru to lift their first-ever title earlier this month. Unfortunately, RCB’s celebrations ended in tragedy, with a deadly stampede during the victory parade taking 11 lives and leaving many injured in Bengaluru.

Kohli is expected to return to international action in August for India’s ODI tour of Bangladesh. He already retired from T20I and Test cricket, remaining active in ODI cricket with an aim to play in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. He recently hosted the Indian team for lunch at his London home.

The Indian batting icon has enjoyed a remarkable Test and T20I career. In Tests, Kohli played 123 matches and scored 9,230 runs, including 30 centuries. He also led India in 68 Tests, winning 40 of them, making him the country’s most successful Test captain.

In T20Is, Kohli played 125 matches, scored 4,188 runs with one century, and hit 38 fifties. He retired from T20I cricket after helping India win the T20 World Cup last year.
