Monterrey CF became the first Liga MX side to make its appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, facing powerhouse Inter Milan on Matchday 1. And it was none other than Sergio Ramos who opened the scoring with a towering header to give Rayados the early advantage.

Inter dominated possession early but struggled to create any real scoring chances. Relying on counterattacks, Monterrey found their breakthrough from a corner kick delivered by Oliver Torres.

Beating Alessandro Bastoni to the ball, Ramos soared with a remarkable leap to meet the cross perfectly. The Spanish defender’s powerful header found the back of the net in the 25th minute, giving Monterrey a crucial lead against the European giants.

Ramos was absent in several Monterrey games during the 2025 due to problems with injuries, but every time he was on the pitch, he’s been able to leave his mark. In his 10th game, the Spanish defender scored his 5th wearing a Rayados shirt, stating his impact when fit.

Inter, Ramos’ last victim in the Champions League

Ramos has built a legendary career with Sevilla, Real Madrid, and PSG, known not only for his defensive toughness but also for his knack for scoring in clutch moments — especially in the Champions League. Fittingly, Inter Milan was the opponent for his last Champions League goal.

That strike came on November 3, 2020, when Ramos, then with Real Madrid, scored off a Toni Kroos corner to give Los Blancos a 2-0 lead in a Group B matchup. Real Madrid went on to edge Inter 3-2 in that tightly contested match.
