As usual, the US Masters pave the way for the Grand Slam season in the golf schedule. This year, the traditional Augusta tournament will be held from the 10th to the 13th of April, at the National Golf Club. Among the favourites for victory are, clearly, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. Scheffler, the current world number one, has already won two of the last three Masters events. He is obviously considered the leading candidate for the title, with odds of 9/2, despite the fact that he has yet to score any win, in 2025. McIlroy, instead, is fresh off a victory at the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. This is the reason why he is listed at 6/1 for victory at the Masters and is aiming to complete the Career Grand Slam.

Other contenders are Jon Rahm at 16/1, winner in 2023, Xander Schauffele, who won two majors in 2024, and Ludvig Aberg at 14/1. Barring any resounding twists and turns, the odds are expected to remain virtually unchanged until the tournament begins, but to stay up to date you can check the page with the Best US masters winner bets and find the best deals on the market on Oddschecker, the leading online platform to get statistics and information about every sport and tournament.

The Masters as a rite

Golf is not a sport for everyone. In order to play it people must have time and a considerable amount of money. Plus, a single round can last quite long and could become boring for whoever spectates. But all these details don’t matter in Augusta. The US Masters are smaller than the other major championships, allowing only 96 challengers to take part. It’s an historical event and there are some strict rules to follow for the audience. But that doesn’t bother anyone. Georgians and Americans are proud to be there, knowing perfectly well that they’ll be part of one of the most important sports traditions in their country.

The Masters are a collective rite, a chance to see golf all-stars challenging each other for ranking points, money, fame and glory. One of the most cherished traditions is the chance to see superstars of the past. The National Golf Club usually invites all the past champions still in activity, so it is a chance to hunt for some autographs or see the best of the best playing once again. Tiger Woods is usually one of the most sought after participants but this year he won’t make it, because he ruptured his Achilles and is about to undergo a surgery.

Even if the most popular golf player in recent history won’t play he may very well be in attendance, bonding with fans and watching Scheffler, McIlroy and the others swing for the silverware. A lot of beloved players of the recent past will be competing: Angel Cabrera, Jose Luis Ballester, Joaquin Niemann and Nicolai Hojgaard have been invited and accepted the challenge.

Who should Scheffler watch out for?

Scottie Scheffler

As an American and as the number one ranked player in PGA, Scottie Scheffler is more than eager to win in Augusta, but it won’t be that easy. There are a lot of threats for him in Georgia. The competition is strong and determined. His year, then, didn’t begin in the best way possible. McIlroy would like to overtake him but he’s not the only one. Scheffler already won the US Masters in 2022 but he always disappointed afterwards. McIlroy has never won in Augusta, but he seems to be in top shape at the moment and is already eyeing the trophy. The same could be said for Tony Finau, who is playing at an extremely high level and is the true dark horse in this competition. Rahm and Aberg, of course, can finish at the top of the leaderboard, as well as Collin Morikawa, born and raised in LA, who would like to triumph in front of a homeland crowd.
