Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) finally caught somebody!

Less than two months ago, a planned catchweight bout between Douglas Silva de Andrade vs. John Castenada was cancelled at the very last second. In fact, both men had successfully made weight by the time the bout was canned … and now we know why! Per a report from MMA Junkie, de Andrade failed a February 14 drug test for furosemide, which is a prohibited diuretic commonly used for congestive heart failure.

There’s a little more to the failed test than meets the eye. Per CSAD, the Brazilian submitted a supplement he was using for testing. Though the supplement didn’t list furosemide, it tested positive for the substance, as did an additional unopened container of the supplement. This may be a genuine case of tainted supplement, which explains the shorter suspension.

Tainted supplement or not, it’s a win for CSAD. Since the company has taken over where USADA left off, there have been far fewer drug suspensions. The public perception is that juicing is back on the menu, so maybe this incident can help bolster confidence in the testing agency.

As for de Andrade, the Brazilian has fought inside the Octagon 13 times, holding a 7-6 record overall. His best overall win in that span is clearly a decision victory over Marlon Vera. Most recently, however, the heavy hitter came up short versus Miles John in June 2024.

He’ll be eligible to return August 28.
