Former welterweight champion Leon Edwards was slated to take on No. 4 ranked Jack Della Maddalena in the UFC Fight Night 255 main event in London on March 22, but that has changed.
Della Maddalena got the call to fight for the title against champion Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 leaving Edwards without an opponent. UFC matchmakers quickly found one, though. Edwards now faces No. 5 ranked Sean Brady in the London ‘Fight Night’ main event. UFC CEO Dana White announced the news on Wednesday via social media.
Edwards (22-4, 1 NC) lost the title in his last fight, dropping a unanimous decision to Muhammad at UFC 304. “Rocky” will be looking to rebound from the loss and solidify his top contender status.
Brady (17-1) will enter the bout riding a two-fight winning streak. The only blemish on his record is a loss to the current champion, Muhammad, in October 2022. In his last outing, Brady defeated former title challenger Gilbert Burns via unanimous decision. He’ll be aiming to pick up the biggest win of his career and put himself in line for a title shot.
The event will mark the promotion’s 16th time hosting an event in England’s Capital city.
