Myktybek Orolbai played spoiler for Tofiq Musayev fighting at home in Azerbaijan after snatching a nasty kimura submission to end their fight at UFC Baku.
While Musyaev definitely received a massive ovation from the crowd, Orolbai was quick to silence them after he grabbed an early takedown and brought the fight to the ground. Orolbai continued to drag Musayev to the canvas before he eventually found an opening to grab onto the kimura from the top position.
From there, Orolbai secured the submission and really began cranking the shoulder and with a pained grimace on his face Musyaev had no choice but to tap out or risk serious injury.
The end came at 4:35 in the opening round. Watch the submission finish below:
“That was a surprise,” Orolbai said about the finish. “We knew he was a great fighter, so this was a little bit of a surprise.”
While it was an impressive showing, it must be noted that the fight was originally scheduled to take place at lightweight because Orolbai was unable to make the 156-pound limit for a non-title fight. As a result, the bout was moved to a 165-pound catchweight fight instead.
Still, it was one way traffic for Orolbai as he tapped out Musyaev and got back on track after suffering the first loss of his UFC career in his previous outing against Matuesz Rebecki.
Orolbai now sports a 14-2-1 record overall while improving to 3-1 in the UFC.
