UFC 316 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. on Saturday is headlined by a bantamweight championship rematch. Titleholder Merab Dvalishvili (19-4) and former champion Sean O’Malley (18-2, 1 NC) run it back.
Dvalishvili won the 135-pound championship by defeating O’Malley at UFC 306 at The Sphere in Las Vegas last September. He successfully defend the title against Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311 in January. “The Machine” is on an incredible 12-fight winning streak and hasn’t tasted defeat since 2018.
O’Malley hasn’t fought since the loss to Dvalishvili. Following the UFC 306 defeat, O’Malley underwent hip surgery. Fully recovered, “Suga” wants the belt back.
