As the countdown continues toward one of the most anticipated matches of the soccer calendar, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain prepare to clash in the 2025 UEFA Champions League Final on Saturday, May 31, in Munich. With the stakes sky-high and legacy on the line, Inter is set to make a bold and unprecedented move that has fans and pundits buzzing ahead of kickoff.

Held at the Allianz Arena in Germany, a ground steeped in European soccer history, the final pits PSG’s star-studded squad, fresh off a domestic double, against a hungry Italian side, eager to reassert its status among the continental elite. While the attention is naturally on the tactical battle between Luis Enrique and Simone Inzaghi, something unexpected is unfolding beyond the white lines—a departure from tradition that could become part of Champions League folklore.

Break from blue and black

For the first time in their European Cup final history, Inter will not wear their iconic black and blue striped home jersey. In a surprise decision that has raised eyebrows and sparked intrigue, the Italian giants have chosen to don their third kit—a striking golden yellow ensemble with black details—for Saturday’s final.

“Inter will dress for the occasion by wearing their third, golden yellow kit in Saturday’s Champions League final,” reported ESPN. The reason behind the switch is partly practical: PSG, as the designated home team, will wear their first-choice navy blue kit, which includes a vertical red and white stripe. This color clash meant Inter had to look beyond their usual home strip.

Traditionally, teams opt for their second kit under such circumstances. But in a move that combines superstition, strategy, and style, Inter opted not to wear their white and blue second kit, the same one they wore in their only Champions League defeat this season—a 3-2 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in December.

Lucky yellow?

Instead, Inzaghi’s men have turned to a kit that has brought them undeniable fortune on their road to the final. The Nerazzurri’s golden shirt has only been used twice in Europe this season—but on both occasions, it brought victories: a 1-0 win away at Sparta Prague in January, and a 2-0 triumph at Feyenoord in the round of 16.

“There may be superstition involved,” noted the report, “as Simone Inzaghi’s side won both of their games in Europe’s elite club competition when playing in yellow this term.”

By choosing the third kit, the Serie A giant is not only making a symbolic statement—they may be trying to recapture that winning aura. While fans might miss the familiar Nerazzurri stripes, the glint of gold could become the new image of hope.
