Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly launched a €45 million bid to sign 17-year-old sensation Chris Rigg from Sunderland, according to Fichajes. The teenage midfielder is one of England’s most exciting young talents, and Spurs appear determined to beat West Ham United, who are also keen on securing his signature.

Why Are Spurs Pushing for Rigg?

Chris Rigg has been on the radar of Premier League clubs ever since he broke into Sunderland’s first team as a 15-year-old. The Hebburn-born midfielder has already made over 50 senior appearances, showcasing maturity beyond his years. His seven goals and one assist in the Championship underline his attacking threat from midfield.

For Tottenham, this move aligns with their recent transfer strategy of snapping up elite young talent. Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have already been added to the squad, and Rigg would be another high-potential addition as uncertainty looms over Yves Bissouma’s future.

Can West Ham Steal the Deal?

West Ham are also in the race, with The Sun reporting that Sunderland’s asking price is lower than Spurs’ €45 million bid. The Hammers are looking for midfield reinforcements with Guido Rodríguez’s future uncertain and Carlos Soler unlikely to stay beyond his loan spell. If they move quickly, they could snap up Rigg at a bargain price compared to Spurs’ massive offer.

Is €45 Million Too Much for a 17-Year-Old?

While Rigg is undoubtedly a top talent, is he worth €45 million at just 17? Tottenham’s aggressive bid suggests they see him as a future star, but at that price, there’s little room for error. Personally, I think Spurs should be a bit more cautious—Rigg is still young and unproven at the top level. Paying such a premium now feels like a gamble when other midfield options might offer more immediate impact.

That said, if Spurs believe he’s the next big thing, then perhaps this is a risk worth taking. What do you think—should Tottenham go all in on Rigg or look elsewhere?
