Last trade deadline, Detroit Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris traded lefty reliever Andrew Chafin to the Texas Rangers.
The Tigers received two prospects in return and Chafin was on an expiring deal, anyhow. It just made sense, especially for a team with one of the best pitching coaches around in Chris Fetter.
Fetter was able to make due with what the Tigers had in the bullpen, and using the theory of “pitching chaos”, Detroit made a spectacular run to the playoffs.
That was all fun and good for the Tigers, but now Harris seemingly wants to give Chafin another shot to prove himself. According to the Tigers, they’re bringing Chafin back on a minor league contract and are inviting him to spring training.
