Saffa to start against Boks

As spring gives way to summer, the UK begins to bask in longer days, warmer evenings, and a collective sense of anticipation.

The season brings with it a renewed optimism, especially for sports enthusiasts, as a packed calendar of events promises excitement and national pride.

Sport is woven into the fabric of British culture. From village greens to grand stadiums, it unites communities and generations. Summer, in particular, offers a stage where tradition meets triumph, and every match or race becomes a shared story.

Reflecting on the summer of 2024, fans were treated to a thrilling Olympics, a memorable Euro 2024 where England reached the final, and the high-octane action of the T20 World Cup. These events not only showcased athletic excellence but also united the nation in celebration.

The British passion for sport is deeply rooted, offering moments of shared joy and community spirit. As we look ahead, here are the key events set to capture our attention in summer 2025.

Wimbledon

Tennis takes centre stage at Wimbledon, where Carlos Alcaraz enters as the favourite, aiming for a third consecutive title.

Fresh from his Monte Carlo Masters victory, the Spaniard’s form is undeniable. However, with contenders like Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic in the mix, the competition remains fierce. The grass courts of SW19 are set for another fortnight of strawberries, cream, champagne, and world-class tennis.

UEFA Women’s Euro 2025

Football fans will be eagerly watching as England’s Lionesses begin their title defence in Switzerland, facing a challenging group that includes France, the Netherlands, and Wales.

Their campaign kicks off on July 5 against Les Bleus in Zurich. With a strong squad and experienced leadership, England aims to replicate their 2022 success and inspire fans once more.

Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot 2025 promises five days of top-tier horse racing and fashion. For those seeking Ascot tips, there’s plenty of time to analyse and assess your winners.

The highlight of the week is the prestigious Gold Cup, held on Thursday, 19 June.

This Group 1 race, run over two and a half miles, is the ultimate test of stamina for stayers and stands as the oldest and most revered contest at the meeting, dating back to 1807.

In 2024, Kyprios reclaimed his crown after missing the previous year due to injury, and he could return in 2025 to attempt a third victory.

The Gold Cup not only showcases elite equine endurance but also embodies the rich heritage and pageantry that define Royal Ascot.

From the prestigious Queen Anne Stakes to the closing Queen Alexandra Stakes, the event offers a blend of tradition and thrilling competition for fans of flat racing.

The Hundred

For cricket fans, The Hundred returns from August 5 to 31, featuring fast-paced red ball matches across England and Wales.

With no scheduling conflicts with other major leagues, the 2025 edition is set to attract top international talent.

As the final major cricketing event before this year’s Ashes, it’s a must-watch for fans eager for high-energy action.

Women’s Rugby World Cup

Seeing out the summer, from 22 August to 27 September, England hosts the Women’s Rugby World Cup, marking the tournament’s return to home soil for the first time since 2010.

The Red Roses kick off their campaign against the USA at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on 22 August, followed by matches against Samoa in Northampton and Australia in Brighton.

The final will be held at Twickenham Stadium on 27 September, aiming to set new attendance records and inspire the next generation of players.
