The Canadians will compete in Group A against Romania and hosts Japan

The official draw for the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Qualifiers has taken place. The 18 teams were divided into six groups consisting of three teams per group. Top-seeded Team Canada will compete in Group A alongside Romania and host nation Japan the week of April 7.

“We are thrilled to be competing in the Billie Jean King Cup once again,” said Team Canada Captain Heidi El Tabakh. “We will be part of a very good group to start the competition, with both Romania and Japan coming off Finals appearances last year. But I’m confident that we have the skills and firepower necessary to compete with the best nations in the world and look forward to beginning our quest to return to the Finals.”

This year, the Billie Jean King Cup Finals is transitioning from a 12 to an eight-team event to mirror the existing Davis Cup Final 8 format. Earlier on Thursday, it was announced that Shenzhen, China will host the Billie Jean King Cup Finals for 2025-27.

To make the transition, the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers will be played across six group events, consisting of three teams per group. Each three-day event will be held in one location and played on a round-robin basis. The six group winners will join host nation, China, and 2024 world champions Italy at the 2025 Finals. Details on the timing of this year’s Finals will be confirmed at a later date.

Each Qualifiers tie will consist of two singles and one doubles match. The six group winners will advance to the 2025 Finals. The remaining 12 nations will compete in the Playoffs, alongside the best-performing teams from the 2025 regional Group I events. The Playoffs will also be contested in groups of three teams in November 2025. The group winners will advance to the 2026 Qualifiers.

Traditional home-or-away ties will return in the Qualifiers and Playoffs from 2026 onwards.

Further information regarding Team Canada’s Qualifiers roster and the schedule of events will be confirmed at a later date.
