On 1 December 2024, World Sports activities Communication athlete Sifan Hassan was named World Athlete of the 12 months by World Athletics, incomes high honors within the Out of Stadium and general classes through the remaining voting spherical.

“I’m so honored,” Hassan mentioned upon receiving the award. “Being named World Athlete of the 12 months amongst such unimaginable athletes, particularly in an Olympic 12 months, means the world to me.”

This prestigious accolade caps a 12 months outlined by boldness and willpower. Hassan captured the world’s consideration on the Paris Olympics along with her exceptional performances, profitable bronze medals within the 5000m and 10,000m and, lastly, gold within the marathon, setting an Olympic report time of two:22:25. By competing in three completely different occasions, she took on a rare problem and impressed thousands and thousands across the globe.

“Since I used to be younger, I watched marathon runners with admiration, questioning if I might ever run like them and even end a marathon,” she shared. “This 12 months, my curiosity drove me to take a threat and compete in three distances on the Paris Olympics. It was terrifying, however that made each end line much more significant. It wasn’t excellent, however generally happiness comes from embracing imperfections. I’m so grateful that this journey is being acknowledged and celebrated.”

This award is greater than a private milestone for Hassan—it’s a message of encouragement to the subsequent technology of athletes.

“This award isn’t only for me, my crew, or my household. It’s for each younger lady on the market, watching, dreaming, and believing she will be able to obtain greatness via sport. To all of you, I need to say: hold exercising, hold coaching, hold pushing, hold believing, and at all times do not forget that no dream is simply too massive.”
