Sinner stops Novak in Wimbledon semi-final – Novak Djokovic

Alcaraz vs Sinner, Wimbledon Final, By the Numbers

When Roger Federer announced his retirement from professional tennis in 2022, it came as a shock to all tennis fans. This was not surprising news, considering that the Swiss legend had already passed the age of 40 and had been affected by a serious knee injury in the previous two years.

The last part of his career was different from how the King had imagined it precisely because of that knee problem and the iconic final of the 2019 Wimbledon Championships against Novak Djokovic – in which Roger did not convert two match points in the fifth set – remained his last chance to win a Major.

The former world No.1 – who had also played a few tournaments in 2021 with disappointing results for a legend of his caliber – participated in the 2022 Laver Cup in London as his last official event before starting a new chapter in his life.

Luthi on his relationship with Federer

Among the people who have been by Federer’s side for most of his career and who have contributed to his longevity, there is certainly his friend and former coach Severin Luthi.

The latter helped the 20-time Grand Slam champion even in the toughest moments of his career and has always had a great relationship with him both on and off the court.

In a recent interview with ‘Il Corriere del Ticino’, Luthi spoke about his relationship with the legend from Basel: “We worked together for a long time, but there was also always a great friendship between us. Since Roger retired from tennis in 2022 we haven’t seen each other that often, but we talk quite assiduously.

We mostly met abroad at events like the Laver Cup.

In addition, we are both testimonials for the Uniqlo brand.”

The ‘Swiss Maestro’ has appeared in a few tournaments on the professional tour over the past two years (such as at the Rolex Shanghai Masters in October 2024) and recently visited South Africa for his Foundation.
