Seattle Seahawks waive undrafted free agents following rookie minicamp

Now that rookie minicamp has concluded for the Seattle Seahawks, some roster shuffling has occurred.

The Seahawks have waived undrafted rookie free agents Jackson Woodard out of UNLV and West Virginia defensive end TJ Jackson. This roster shuffling, though coming only a few days after undrafted rookie free agent signings were official, is quite common after rookie minicamps wrap up.

Woodard’s waiving may be a surprise to some as he was one of the more high-profile undrafted rookie free agent signings. However, with a deep depth chart at linebacker, plus the recent move of Jamie Sheriff to stand up linebacker, the room may have gotten too deep for Woodard to stick around. As for Jackson, the defensive line room may have gotten too deep with other recent undrafted rookie free agent signings, including Connor O’Toole and Jared Ivey.

Another easy explanation for these exits out of Seattle may be that other rookie minicamp tryouts simply outplayed them. With two new open roster spots, Seattle could look to add one of these rookie minicamp tryouts, or perhaps they could add another veteran player. Maybe even a familiar face (Shaquill Griffin anyone?).
