To celebrate the inaugural season of girls flag football in Hawaii, the Seattle Seahawks will be partnering with the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) to host a pair of flag football camps next weekend. Both camps are free of charge and are open to all high school girls enrolled in the 2024-25 school year.

These camps are part of a larger effort by the HHSAA and the Hawaii State Department of Education to establish girls’ flag football at the high school level. The Seahawks and the NFL will play a role in sponsoring these camps, which help in securing grant funding for equipment for players and schools from throughout the state.

“Our goal is to grow a love for the game of flag football and provide as many girls as possible the opportunity to play,” said Mario Bailey, Seahawks Vice President of Community Engagement and Legends (via Seahawks.com). “We are excited to support the Hawaii High School Athletic Association to provide these camps at no cost so there’s no barrier to participate. This is a great opportunity for girls to practice their skills or learn the fundamentals in a fun and safe way ahead of Hawaii’s inaugural high school girls flag football season.”

The first camp will be held on Saturday from 9AM-11AM HST at James B. Castle High School, and the second camp will be held at the same time on Sunday at Pearl City High School. Registration is available here.

Last year, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) put girls flag football up for vote as a sanctioned varsity sport, but despite public support from the Seahawks organization, it missed by six votes.

Hawaii’s inaugural girls flag football season will begin the week of February 24, and will close with a state tournament at Mililani High School on Saturday, April 26.
