Seattle Seahawks hire Super Bowl champion Rick Dennison as run game coordinator

The Seattle Seahawks have made another (expected) addition to their coaching staff.

Three-time Super Bowl champion coach Rick Dennison, who interviewed with the Seahawks last week, has been brought on as a run game coordinator, something Seattle did not officially have on last season’s staff.

Who is Rick Dennison, the Seahawks’ newest run game coordinator?

Dennison is best known for his days as a player and assistant with the Denver Broncos, including three Super Bowls as a special teams coordinator (1997, 1998) and offensive coordinator (2015). He has close ties to Gary Kubiak, son of newly hired Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, including stints as Gary’s OC from 2015-2016 in Denver and four seasons as the Houston Texans OC from 2010-2013.

In terms of his working relationship with Klint, Dennison served as a senior offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints last season while Klint was the OC. They both worked with the Minnesota Vikings under Mike Zimmer from 2019 to 2021.

Has Rick Dennison been a run game coordinator before?

The last time Dennison was a run game coordinator was in Minnesota, when he was also the offensive line coach from 2019 to 2020 before switching to senior offensive advisor in 2021. Seattle’s previous run game coordinator was running backs coach Chad Morton, who’s no longer with the team as of 2023.

The previously reported hire of Justin Outten has also been made official, albeit with the slightly different distinction of “run game specialist” in addition to assistant offensive line coach. I think the Seahawks are hellbent on reviving their moribund rushing attack.

Who else has joined the Seahawks’ coaching staff?

If you’re keeping score, that’s five members of last season’s Saints staff now in Seattle. Dennison joins Kubiak, offensive line coach John Benton, QBs coach Andrew Janocko, and offensive assistant Michael Byrne.

Seattle Seahawks coaching additions in 2025

Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak: Hired on January 26

Offensive line coach John Benton: Hired on February 3

Quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko: Hired on February 3

Defensive assistant/special teams Neiko Thorpe: Promoted on February 11

Run game specialist Justin Outten: Hired on February 13

Offensive assistant Michael Byrne: Hired on February 11

Run game coordinator/offensive line coach Rick Dennison: Hired on February 18
