The Seattle Seahawks have another important offseason ahead of them following their second consecutive season without a playoff appearance. Mike Macdonald’s group just missed out on the postseason despite a 10-7 record, and the push to improve has already begun with the firing of offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and the departures of several other assistants. Klint Kubiak, John Benton, and others have stepped in with the hope that their vision is aligned with what Coach Macdonald wants.
While free agency is the main story for every team, that’s not necessarily the case for the Seahawks. As of March 3, there are questions surrounding the futures of Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett, all of whom are entering the final seasons of their respective contracts. Extensions are likely for Smith and Metcalf, but Lockett could be seen as a cap casualty. The likes of Dre’Mont Jones and Rayshawn Jenkins may also be deemed on the chopping block.
Seattle does not have many high-profile free agents on its roster. Linebacker Ernest Jones IV is by far the biggest priority re-sign for the Seahawks given their lack of depth at the position. Veteran defensive tackle Jarran Reed is the other notable free agent, with cornerback Tre Brown a distant third given he lost his starting job to Josh Jobe. Starting left guard Laken Tomlinson is the most noteworthy FA on offense and he’s not likely to keep his job.
