Seattle Seahawks 2025 draft class projections: Will Jalen Milroe be a red zone threat?

Guys, they did it! After years and years of Schneider saying how he wanted to draft a quarterback but things just didn’t fall the right way, the Seattle Seahawks selected Alabama QB Jalen Milroe at No. 92. This is a pick that could change the future of the franchise if everything works out.

Athletic Profile/Comps

Relative Athletic Score (RAS)

Mockdraftable

Okay, we don’t really have a ton of information here considering Milroe didn’t do much outside the weigh-in and 40 yard dash. That 4.40-second in the 40 is damn impressive, though. Watching him play, I’d like to think he would’ve performed well in the other tests as well considering he was leaving SEC defenders in the dust.

The comps on both lists don’t really have much relevance since Milroe doesn’t have a RAS score. Just for fun, I pulled a few comps for him that are relevant as a member of the 2025 Seahawks.

MIlroe is only the third QB John Schneider has drafted since he was hired as the Seattle GM in 2010. Alex McGough was a late-round pick, but both Russell Wilson and Milroe were drafted in the third round. Milroe is taller, thicker, and faster than Russ. Wilson was very good to elite in the tests that Milroe didn’t complete. Wilson was a much more pro-ready prospect, with the only real knock being his height. Milroe seems to have that “tilt the room” aura that Wilson showed as a rookie…we’ll see how that plays out in training camp.

Next up is Taysom Hill, the Swiss Army knife utility player for the New Orleans Saints who was coached last season by Klint Kubiak, Seattle’s new offensive coordinator. Hill is slightly taller and heavier than Milroe, but slower. He also performed quite well in the tests that Milroe didn’t perform. We’re talking about two excellent athletes at the QB position. Milroe, unlike Hill, will be playing QB instead of lining up at FB/TE according to Mike Macdonald. They see him as a QB and will utilize him in that way – which will still allow for some fun and dangerous packages.

Gut reaction to the pick

HELL. YES!!

If Nick Emmanwori was my favorite player in the entire draft, Milroe was the one QB I wanted the Seahawks to select. The fact that they were able to get him near the end of the third round is the perfect place to take a chance. He won’t be expected to come in and take the reins but is so damn athletic that it will be hard to keep him off the field.

These are NFL caliber players that Milroe is torching. His athleticism is just so hard to defend. All the receivers are covered? No problem, he’ll just pull the ball down and outrun the entire defense.

He also comes from military parents and is known as a great leader. Even if he doesn’t turn out to be a franchise QB, Milroe could still be an effective role player and red zone weapon. In the third round, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Rookie season prediction

This preseason is going to be fun, I guarantee that. Milroe is probably going to have a handful of plays that get shown on ESPN the next day and cause the talking heads to wonder if he should get a shot to start over Sam Darnold. He’ll make the usually boring second half of those contests must-see TV and will have fans all over Seattle buzzing.

Whether that translates to the regular season will remain to be seen.

I do believe that they will try to work Milroe in for short-yardage situations and maybe some red zone opportunities. He’s such an athletic mismatch that the coaching staff would be foolish not to explore it. He’s a total wildcard, but I’ll say that he’ll contribute four TDs for the Seahawks this season in one form or another that will cause headaches for opposing teams trying to gameplan for him. Maybe he’s paying them back for not drafting him?

How can you read that and not be excited about this guy??
