Seahawks Reacts Fan Survey: How do you feel about the Klint Kubiak hire?

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Seattle Seahawks fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

That’s right! Seahawks Reacts is back for a special edition.

If you haven’t heard or read the news by now, the Seattle Seahawks have a new offensive coordinator in town. Former New Orleans Saints play-caller Klint Kubiak is in charge of the offense after the Ryan Grubb experience quickly went bust. Kubiak was also the OC for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021, passing game coordinator for the Denver Broncos in 2022, and PGC for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023. If you’ve noticed a pattern, Kubiak has been on fired coaching staffs a lot in recent seasons, which speaks to more bad luck than anything else.

Kubiak’s dad is Gary Kubiak, who played for and coached alongside Mike Shanahan, so you know what type of offense you’re generally going to get. Expect a zone blocking run scheme with an emphasis on play action passing and a lot more under-center offense than we saw under Ryan Grubb. New Orleans ranked 24th in points scored under Kubiak, fading badly after scoring 91 points combined in Weeks 1-2. Unfortunately, the Saints offense was beset by injuries to Derek Carr, Taysom Hill, Chris Olave, Rasheed Shaheed, Cesar Ruiz, Alvin Kamara, and other starters and main reserves throughout the season. Hard to gauge an offense’s efficacy when Jake Haener and rookie Spencer Rattler are playing quarterback behind backup offensive linemen and throwing to practice squad receivers and waiver wire pickups.

When Klint coordinated the Vikings offense in 2021, the Vikings were 14th in points scored, with Justin Jefferson leading the way with his first of three 100-catch, 1,500+ yard seasons. Kirk Cousins threw 33 touchdowns to just 7 interceptions and was sacked less than five percent of his dropbacks. Despite those nice stats, Minnesota was generally a middling offense. His arguable high point in the NFL was being the passing game coordinator for Brock Purdy in his first full season as a starter. Purdy finished 4th in MVP voting as the 49ers marched all the way to their latest Super Bowl loss.

We don’t have a ton of info to go off of with Kubiak as an OC, and his 2024 season can largely be disregarded given the extraordinary injury misfortune. Still, the positives of Kubiak’s Saints offense may be cause for optimism.

How do you feel about the Kubiak hire? The answers range from “Excited” to “Underwhelmed.” Your other options are “Neutral” and “No opinion.”

Check back during the weekend for the results! We’ll even include some of your comments into this week’s results post!
