Seahawks analyst sees rookie Elijah Arroyo as having ‘second-leading target’ potential

There’s a lot to get excited about with the Seattle Seahawks’ 2025 draft class, including some pass-catchers.

The latest episode of the HawksZone Rundown podcast featured Seahawks guest analyst Griffin Sturgeon, aka cmikesspinmove of the Seattle Overload podcast. Griff joined hosts Bryce Coutts and Ryan MacMillan for deep dives into the Seattle Seahawks’ 2025 offseason developments. One player Griff is very high on is Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo, taken with the second of Seattle’s two second-round picks.

“Arroyo—he can separate don’t get me wrong—but he always stays on schedule even if the guy is in his hip pocket,” Sturgeon said. “He just sustains and keeps winning. And then of course he can shake you at the top of the route if you give him space. He can move like that.

“You can do different things with him,” Sturgeon continued. “He makes each side of the field ambidextrous when you go to the 2×2 stuff. I think he fits the archetype. Not only does he fit the archetype, he’s good at it. I’m pretty excited about him. I can see him being one of those tight ends that rattles off 700-, 800-, 900-yard seasons. I don’t think it would surprise any of us if this time next year or two years he’s the second-leading target behind [Jaxon Smith-Njigba].

“I don’t want to say sky’s the limit for him but it’s pretty high up there. He’s not going to be Travis Kelce. He doesn’t need to be Travis Kelce. I think he can be better than Dalton Kincaid. I was excited to watch a guy and be like, ‘Okay, I like this guy more than I thought I did.”

Arroyo and many others participated in Seahawks’ rookie minicamp (May 2-3, 2025), where third-round quarterback Jalen Milroe impressed with his quick release, earning praise from coach Mike Macdonald. Second-round safety Nick Emmanwori also stood out, drawing Derwin James Jr. comparisons, though injuries to fifth-round picks Tory Horton and Rylie Mills raised concerns. The hosts and Griffin discuss Milroe’s potential role and Emmanwori’s defensive fit, engaging fans eager for rookie updates.

“This is the type of player you take in the third round at quarterback,” Sturgeon said about Milroe. “He’s not going to supplant Sam Darnold or probably any quality starting QB in the NFL year one, year two, or maybe even year three, but you can see what you’ve got with him.

“For me in preseason, I just want to see how does he look—what is his economy of movement when it’s just like, say, play-action? When it’s 1-2-checkdown, what does that look like? Because we know in shotgun, the zone-read can boost your efficiency like crazy. I’m not going to put on his shoulders, like, criticizing him if he’s not a good progression passer out of shotgun. Not yet, anyway. We’ll see what that looks like in year two. But for now, baby steps.”

The episode wraps with a look at training camp battles, including Horton’s shot at a wide receiver role, Damien Martinez challenging Kenneth Walker III at running back, and Milroe’s potential to compete for the backup QB spot.

“I think there will be a three-way battle [for the third receiver spot] between [Marquez Valdes-Scantling], [Jake] Bobo, and [Tory] Horton,” Sturgeon predicted. “I think MVS could lose snaps throughout the year if he’s not careful.”
