Eagles claim 2024 draft pick off waivers from Jaguars [UPDATE]

Could Allen Lazard request to stay with Jets?

Coming off a last-place NFC West finish in the 2024 season, the San Francisco 49ers have made several adjustments to their coaching staff, including a formal promotion of Klay Kubiak to offensive coordinator.

Yes, the brother of newly hired Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is officially the OC of the 49ers. He was previously the passing game specialist in 2024 and had the opportunity to call play in San Francisco’s season finale against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Kubiak brothers were together in San Francisco in 2023, when Klay was assistant quarterbacks coach and Klint was the passing game coordinator. When Klint became the New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator, Klay switched to passing game specialist in lieu of a passing game coordinator title.

This means that 50% of all NFC West teams, 12.5% of all NFC teams, and 6.25% of all NFL teams currently employ a Kubiak as offensive coordinator. Klint will be the play-caller for the Seahawks, whereas Kyle Shanahan is still in charge of the 49ers play sheet until further notice.

The 49ers also added another former Seahawks player to their staff. Defensive end Greg Scruggs, who spent four seasons in Seattle from 2012 to 2015, has been hired as an assistant defensive line coach. San Francisco has several ex-Seahawks within its coaching ranks, including Robert Saleh (defensive coordinator), Gus Bradley (assistant head coach of defense), and K.J. Wright (defensive quality control).
