Casper Ruud will skip Wimbledon this year.
“He’s back on the court, and things are going well, but it looks like playing best-of-five sets is unfortunately a bit too soon. Gstaad will be next for Casper now,” manager Tina Falster told NTB, per Reuters.
Ruud joins Arthur Fils and Sebastian Korda among the big names who have already pulled out of the grass court major.
The 16th-ranked Norwegian has pulled out due to a lingering knee injury. He talked about the injury at Roland-Garros, after his second-round loss to Nuno Borges.
‘I felt it the first time in Monte-Carlo. So it’s been with me actually the whole clay season on and off,” he said at the time. “I will have some more time now to let it heal and rest for a long time.” It’s not surprising that Ruud has elected to skip Wimbledon. He is 3-6 lifetime at the championships and hasn’t always prioritized playing on grass. He has also spoken openly about the need to to prioritize his mental health.
“It’s a tough life in many ways, and a lot of travel days, and it just got to a point where I felt like it was getting too much,” he said of his decision to seek help, in May.
