Ruben Amorim’s burn, Milan’s gain? Lionel Messi’s Argentina teammate Alejandro Garnacho could be set to join Christian Pulisic

Alejandro Garnacho’s days at Manchester United appear to be numbered. Following a turbulent season and a blunt end-of-season meeting with manager Ruben Amorim, the 20-year-old Argentine winger has been told in no uncertain terms that his future lies away from Old Trafford. Now, Milan has reportedly opened talks, hoping to capitalize on the fractured relationship to bring Garnacho to Serie A.

It’s not the first time tension between Amorim and Garnacho has surfaced, but this time it seems irreparable. According to multiple sources including the Daily Mail, the Portuguese called out the forward in front of his teammates during a season wrap-up meeting at Carrington last weekend, delivering a devastating blow to the youngster’s United career.

“You better pray that you can find a club to sign you,” Amorim reportedly told Garnacho, leaving no ambiguity about the winger’s place — or lack thereof — in the team moving forward. “The tone of the comment left Garnacho and his team-mates in no doubt that the academy product’s United career is over,” the report stated.

The incident marked the culmination of a difficult season for the Argentine international, who scored in the FA Cup final last season but struggled for consistent playing time this year. The Argentine’s frustrations were clear after he was given just 19 minutes in the UEFA Europa League final loss to Spurs, a match he felt he deserved more involvement in.

“Until we reached the final, I played every round. And I played 20 minutes today – I don’t know. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next,” Garnacho said post-match. His brother later accused Amorim of “throwing him under the bus.”

Milan sees opportunity in United rift

With Amorim’s harsh words all but confirming an exit, Milan has moved quickly to explore a transfer. The Rossoneri are in talks with Manchester United over a possible deal, per Ole, and hope to lure the 20-year-old with the promise of a fresh start — and possibly more minutes.

The interest comes amid Milan’s broader plan to revamp the squad following a disappointing season, both financially and competitively. With Rafael Leao potentially on his way out, Garnacho is viewed as an ideal long-term replacement. While Garnacho is valued at around $51 million, a Portuguese’s sale could give the Rossoneri the financial firepower needed to complete the deal.

The club’s new sporting director, Igli Tare, is reportedly overseeing the operation, part of a larger strategy to tap into undervalued Premier League talent. Milan’s track record in this space is encouraging — Christian Pulisic, Fikayo Tomori, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have all made the jump from England to Italy in recent years, with varying degrees of success. Pulisic, in particular, has become a key figure in the squad.
