Ruben Amorim considers Diogo Dalot to be untouchable, asks Man United for another left wingback instead – Man United News And Transfer News

It is well known that Manchester United have plans to strengthen in the wingback position, but there has been a change in plans as per a recent report.

Ruben Amorim’s arrival meant traditional fullbacks were traded for wingbacks, and in came Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu in January to play on the left.

The plan was to strengthen on the right in the summer, with Diogo Dalot not an out-and-out wingback. The Red Devils had their eyes on Geovany Quenda, Amorim’s Sporting CP protege, but he chose Chelsea instead.

And now, Teamtalk have claimed that the head coach likes what Dalot has brought to the table and is in no rush to move him out.

New untouchable

Instead, Amorim will ask INEOS to bring in another left wingback to give cover for Dorgu. Luke Shaw has returned from injury but is seen as a left-sided centre-back than a wingback.

“Amorim wants to build his team around three key players: Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Diogo Dalot.

“The final name from that threesome may surprise some, especially with Man Utd heavily linked with signing a new right wing-back in the lead-up to the summer window.

“Nonetheless, these names are considered “untouchable” and essential for Amorim’s tactical project.

“And with Amorim overjoyed at what he’s seen from Dalot at right wing-back, the manager is now pushing for a new left wing-back to bring more balance to the opposite side of the pitch.

Another left wingback

“United signed Patrick Dorgu in January and can also call upon Luke Shaw, though the latter can expect to feature more at left centre-back if a new wing-back arrives to compete with Dorgu in the more advanced role.”

Dalot, who has been a regular under Amorim, is currently sidelined and while it was initially feared that he would miss the rest of the season, there is a chance he could be back for the Europa League final on May 21.

Dorgu is yet to hit his stride given his relative inexperience and it is not the worst decision to bring in another left wingback as the 20-year-old can also play on the right.

Where this leaves Harry Amass is not known yet. The academy wonderkid has impressed in his recent starts on the left and Amorim has clearly taken a liking to the 18-year-old with the club set to sit down with him over a new contract.
