Rory McIlroy, one of the biggest stars of the golf scene, decided to make important changes before the new tournament: Arnold Palmer Invitational. The experienced golfer has added new clubs to his golf bag, and it will be interesting to see how much impact these changes will have on his game. His former TaylorMade Qi10 driver has been replaced by a new Qi35 model.

Although until now the Northern Irishman was not open to these changes, after two months of the release of the new driver, Rory decided to experiment. It is interesting that the driver will come with a custom ‘dot’ head in combination with a Fujikura VeloCore Ventus Black shaft. In addition, there are two new Qi34 fairway woods, with Ventus Black shafts.

In an interview with the media, McIlroy revealed the main reason for these changes, stressing that he realized a few weeks ago how necessary these changes were. The Northern Irishman obviously felt that this had a positive effect on him and brought improvement, so he had no hesitation in making this move.

Rory McIlroy shares interesting reasons for his changes

“I think it’s all really come from the ball change a few weeks ago. So because this ball, especially with the shorter irons, spins a little bit more, especially with the sort of three-quarter shots, I feel a little more comfortable playing those, so I actually weakened my pitching wedge by a degree and a half to sort of bridge the gap between having a 46 and a half and a 54,” he said, as quoted by Golf Monthly.

He also wants to have more options with his woods and clubs, so he went from a 5-wood to a 4-wood and added a 3-iron to replace the 5-wood.

These changes allow him to have clubs that fly at different distances, giving him more options when hitting tee shots.
