Mauricio Ruffy is due for a big fight.
The Brazilian knockout artist is just 3-0 inside the Octagon, but it’s how he’s winning fights that has been so impressive. He’s been extremely dominant, picking apart each of his opponents and scoring two knockout wins in the process. Most recently, he smoked King Green with an incredible wheel kick just two minutes into the fight (watch here). It helps, of course, that Ruffy is part of the Fight Nerds team that is doing so well in the last year or so.
After the Green KO, Ruffy is expecting a high-profile match up next. Speaking with MMAmania about his future, he revealed he’s been offered Justin Gaethje already and expects a highly ranked foe next.
“They offered me Justin Gaethje, but it was too last minute,” Ruffy explained through a translator. “I feel confident about what they’re offering me, I’m ready for the next one … [It’ll be] soon. We’re talking already, and for sure in the coming days, some good things are coming up for the fans … For my last fight they offered me a Top Five, what do you think they’re going to give me after the knockout I had?”
Ruffy refused to name a name, but he pointed to a recent pattern amongst his team mates. “Jean Silva’s got a main event. Carlos Prates came off a main event. Caio Borralho has got a main event. What do you guys think is coming up?”
Jean Silva interjected, “Mauricio Ruffy vs. Michael Chandler main event would be really cool!”
Michael Chandler has recently dropped down to No. 13 in the Lightweight rankings after getting demolished by Paddy Pimblett. He’s still a big name, however, so he might be the perfect match up to help boost Ruffy’s star profile even further.
Stay tuned.
