Rio Ferdinand believes there is no way back for Marcus Rashford at Man United – Man United News And Transfer News

Marcus Rashford was left out of Manchester United’s squad once again, for the weekend victory against Fulham.

The forward has featured in one matchday squad since the Manchester Derby in December but failed to get any minutes on the pitch despite United needing a goal against Newcastle on the night.

Ruben Amorim’s continued omission of Rashford has opened the door for a move in the January window with United’s head coach still unimpressed by the 27-year-old’s contribution in and around the training ground.

Amorim was quizzed once more on the Rashford situation after the win at Fulham and responded strongly by stating he would “rather play his goalkeeping coach than a player who doesn’t give their maximum every day.”

The latest comments come after reports of Rashford engaging in double training sessions with the breakdown between the pair more evident than ever.

As reported by the Daily Mail, former United defender Rio Ferdinand believes there is “no way back” for Rashford at Old Trafford after Amorim’s recent outburst.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand claims that Rashford should be embarrassed by his manager’s comments with question marks over your application being one of the worst things to have throw at you as a player.

“If I was that player that the manager said that about, my heart, my pride, my ego – embarrassment.

“For someone to question your application, to question [whether] you’re going out there and giving 100 per cent for your team, (suggesting) that you’re going to slack off and you’re taking shortcuts, effort isn’t really one of the things I would want to be hearing a manager say is lacking in my makeup,” he said.

Ferdinand is adamant the comments could be the final straw for the pair and doesn’t expect to see Rashford back in a United shirt anytime soon.

“That’s a damning comment. There’s really no way back for Marcus after that, I don’t think, with that type of comment.

“You’re looking at it and going, “He has only been there a short bit of time and he’s actually straight away gone, he’s pulled out the nine-millimetre revolver and just gone bang”. There’s no way back from that,” he added.

The former England man continued by saying Amorim has now set a dangerous precedent should Rashford find his way back in the fold with the other players likely to think they can “take their foot off the gas.”

Ferdinand says if he found himself in Rashford’s shoes he would fight back against attacks on his professionalism and would relish the chance of a conversation with the United forward to get to the bottom of the situation.

“For me, if it isn’t true, I’m coming out all guns blazing. I’m holding a press conference and saying “I’m not having anyone say that about me.

“You only do that if you are 100 per cent sure that nobody can say you’re taking shortcuts. We’re in an era where you have the ability to really communicate with the fans directly so the story is not getting twisted.

“I would love to sit across the table from Marcus and look into his eyes and see if he could say that. If you can’t, you have to look at yourself,” said Rio.

With just days remaining in the winter window, Rashford and his team are going to have to get their skates on to finalise a move away from Old Trafford for the second half of the season, at least.

A loan move for the remainder of the campaign always seemed the most viable option for a player who is on astronomical wages in Manchester.

United are back in action this week with Rashford not expected to play a part in the Europa League trip to Steaua Bucharest on Thursday evening.
