Unveiled: FIFA’s official best XI for the Club World Cup

Argentina has already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup and will be looking to retain the title they won in Qatar 2022. However, the biggest question mark surrounding this team remains: will Lionel Messi be part of the squad in the United States, Mexico, and Canada?

“La Pulga” would turn 39 during what could be his sixth participation in the most popular tournament on the planet. Although he is still in good shape and is a key piece in Lionel Scaloni’s squad, he has made it clear on more than one occasion that it will be known over time if he will be part of this next World Cup.

In that context, in the preview of Inter Miami‘s duel against LAFC for the CONCACAF Champions League, Jorge Más referred to the possibility that Messi will play in the 2026 World Cup.

Más, one of the owners of the “Garzas” (Herons), advanced: “He is a beast, he always wants to win and it is very nice to see the best player of all time and that he does not lose that desire and his desire today is to play and defend the World Cup in the United States with Argentina, so that is very important for us.”

In addition, he commented regarding the continuity of “La Pulga” in Inter Miami, where he has a contract until December of this year: “My anticipation is that we will see the captain and the 10 of the team, Lionel Messi in the new stadium. It is a decision, we are talking with him about his future in the club. I anticipate that in the next 60-90 days we will have to know his future but we know what he aspires to and that he wants to win everything with the club.”

Messi to remain linked to Inter Miami after retirement

The owner of the MLS club also referred to what will happen when the Argentine decides to put an end to his career: change the boots for the suit. “It is a family relationship not a relationship of a president with a player. He has come here to help grow the project and when he retires he will be a partner of ours in the team.“

“He will be another partner in the club, a shareholder, and he wants to leave that to his children as a legacy. We have a very nice relationship with him, respectful, and I let him live his things quietly,” he completed in dialogue with Fútbol de Primera.
