Respect to former Chelsea player/coach for actually saying it as it is

Love or hate Jody Morris, and I am one of those fans who will always hold a soft spot for him regardless, at least he says it as it is and will never beat around the bush.

Maybe it is his willingness to call things out and say things as they are that saw him drift from management roles lately. I know how that kind of person can often clash with board rooms.

But Morris’ simple but straight to the point review of Chelsea’s last couple of games have hit the spot for me. No excuses, no talk of injuries, and no lies about how we dominated any game. Just pure facts here from Jody…

Morris posted on X after the Arsenal defeat:

‘What an awful game of football this has been…we have been dominated twice by Copenhagen and today by a bang average Arsenal side…’

He’s right too, Arsenal aren’t even that good. But I’m not going to go back into all of that myself again as I already reviewed the game and picked up on the lack of belief we played with.

But these are the kind of true reactions that fans want to see and hear after the games and not our head coach telling us he was happy with the performance and our midfielder saying we were better than Arsenal when we absolutely were not.

The standards at this club have slipped immensely from top to bottom, and that is something that really grinds my gears.

Granted, we are not the same Chelsea of recent times of success and things are different now. But there is absolutely no reason why we cannot keep our standards high, and that starts at the top and then goes down to the manager and then the players. It’s all connected.

It’s so refreshing to see Morris just come out and say it how it is. I’ll always have a lot of time for Jody as a former Chelsea player that I loved to watch, then as a very successful youth manager at our club, and then as assistant under Frank Lampard when those two actually did a pretty decent job with all things considered. I hope he finds his niche in football again and has a successful career.
