Report: Seahawks line up official pre-draft visit with Michigan star corner Will Johnson

The Seattle Seahawks have another projected first-round NFL Draft pick on their radar for an official 30 visit.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, cornerback Will Johnson is slated to meet with the Seahawks on Wednesday. Johnson won a national championship with the Michigan Wolverines and is considered one of the top players at his position.

Top 30 visits on the last day visits are permitted:– #Tennessee edge James Pearce Jr. is visiting the #49ers, who pick No. 11, today.– #Michigan CB Will Johnson is visiting the #Seahawks, who pick No. 18, today.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 16, 2025

Here is The Athletic’s Dane Brugler and his summary of how talented the national champion cornerback is:

A three-year starter at Michigan, Johnson was an outside cornerback in defensive coordinator Wink Martindale’s zone-heavy scheme (only 14.8 percent of his coverage snaps came in man to man in 2024). After an All-America sophomore season, including defensive MVP honors in the national title game, he put up-and-down play on his early 2024 tape before missing most of his final season because of injuries.

Johnson is comfortable in both press and off coverage with the fluid athleticism and route recognition to seamlessly transition or attack the football. He isn’t shy about getting physical at the tops of routes and in pursuit, but his tackling mechanics and execution need work. Overall, Johnson is more “good” than “great” in terms of twitch and speed, but he has outstanding eyes, feet and coverage IQ to match and make plays on the football. He projects as a day one starting outside cornerback in the NFL.

grade 1st–2nd Round

Johnson is almost exclusively a boundary corner, with less than five percent of his snaps coming via the slot position. His 30 1/8” arm length would once upon a time be disqualifying for the Seahawks, who previously preferred their corners to have 32” arm length. That’s not really the case anymore, and Johnson is going to be taken early by some team.

Over three seasons, Johnson recorded nine interceptions, returning three for touchdowns. One of his interceptions came in Michigan’s national championship win over the Washington Huskies and quarterback Michael Penix Jr. His performance in that game earned him Defensive MVP honors.

One point of caution regarding Johnson is his more recent injury history. He only played six games in his final collegiate season due to turf toe, plus he missed a few games in 2023 with separate injuries.

If we’re to approach these pre-draft visits as at least a signal of interest in the player, the Seahawks don’t have a totally settled boundary corner position. Riq Woolen is entering the last year of his rookie deal, Devon Witherspoon primarily works out of the slot but can play on the outside, Josh Jobe is on a cheap one-year deal after a good 2024 season, and Nehemiah Pritchett struggled in limited playing time as a rookie. Everyone else below those three are pure depth options and fighting for roster spots come training camp.

Watch Johnson’s highlights below.
