Report: Nolan Smith suffered triceps injury in the Super Bowl and played through it

Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Nolan Smith suffered a torn triceps injury during the Birds’ Super Bowl LIX win over the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport notes that Smith had surgery on Wednesday and he “will be ready for the 2025 season.”

Smith was able to tough it out and play through his triceps injury during the second half of the Super Bowl. Fortunately for him, Smith’s injury didn’t prevent him from partying hard in the postgame locker room or during the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade.

After only logging one sack as a rookie, Smith took a big leap in Year 2. He especially turned it on in the playoffs, where he had four sacks to give him 10.5 total on the season.

With Josh Sweat set to hit free agency and Brandon Graham potentially retiring, the Eagles will be counting on Smith to be a big part of their pass rush moving forward. Their second first-round pick from the 2023 NFL Draft seems up for the challenge.

Smith seems like he could be a spiritual successor to Graham. He’s a first-round pick who didn’t have the hottest start to his career before ultimately turning it on. Not to mention always playing with a relentless motor and being a pretty vocal trash talker.

The two also share playing through triceps injuries in the Super Bowl in common.
