Report: New Orleans Saints prioritizing Kellen Moore, keeping Anthony Weaver with the Miami Dolphins for now

Could Allen Lazard request to stay with Jets?

The Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints interviewed Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver for head coaching roles. As the coaching carousel begins to slow, both teams appear to prefer an offensive-minded leader.

The #Saints plan to meet again with #Eagles OC Kellen Moore after the Super Bowl — a strong sign he’s the top candidate for the team’s head coaching job, sources tell The Insiders.

Chicago hired former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as head coach, and the Saints are planning to meet with Philadelphia Eagles coordinator Kellen Moore following the Super Bowl — a sign he’s a top candidate for the job, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

NFL rules prevent the two sides from speaking again until after the Super Bowl, and while a final decision hasn’t been made, Pelissero shared that Saints general manager Mickey Loomis told other candidates that discussions with Moore will continue and that he’s been working on a coaching staff.

Weaver’s been a popular name in back-to-back offseasons. He earned a second interview with the Saints in this cycle after multiple meetings with the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons for their head coaching positions last year.

Nothing is set in stone, but New Orleans’ interest in Moore signals that Miami may have a multi-year defensive coordinator for the first time in the Mike McDaniel era. With Weaver calling the shots, the Dolphins held opponents to fewer than 21 points per game and were sixth in yards allowed (314).

Miami is facing a difficult offseason after failing to make the playoffs in 2024, but continuity on the defensive coaching staff would be a promising start to what is expected to be a busy offseason in South Florida.
