A familiar face is returning to Seattle Seahawks headquarters on Monday, but will he leave Renton with a new contract?
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that 2017 third-round pick Shaquill Griffin is scheduled to visit the Seahawks on Monday. Griffin was most recently with the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year contract and is currently an unrestricted free agent.

Shaquill Griffin played four seasons with the Seahawks
When Griffin was drafted in 2017, he was slated to be a reserve behind Jeremy Lane and Richard Sherman. Lane was benched for Griffin midway through the season, then suddenly Griffin was CB1 after Sherman’s Achilles rupture in November. From that point on, Griffin was the top corner on the roster until the end of the 2020 season.
During his time in Seattle, Griffin recorded 249 tackles, 48 passes defensed, 6 interceptions, and a sack of Dak Prescott as a rookie.
Shaquill Griffin has been somewhat of a journeyman since leaving Seattle
Griffin departed in free agency for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021, bringing him back to his home state of Florida. Unfortunately, between inconsistent play and injury problems, Griffin was released two seasons into his three-year, $40 million deal.
In 2023, Griffin split time between the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers before finding his footing with the Minnesota Vikings and their outstanding defense in 2024. It was somewhat of a career turnaround for Griffin, who notched a couple of interceptions and played in every game for the first time since 2018.
Believe it or not, Griffin is still only 29 years old.
The Seahawks are adjusting their cornerback depth chart
With Tre Brown and Artie Burns both departing in free agency, the bottom-end of the Seahawks’ cornerback rotation will look a little different next season. Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen are the clear starters at the top of the depth chart, but even with the re-signing of Josh Jobe it’s far less certain what Seattle will do at this position. The Seahawks did sign Shemar Jean-Charles from the New Orleans Saints but he’s most likely fighting for a roster spot.
Can we see that Shaquill Griffin and Shaquem Griffin tandem sack of Aaron Rodgers again?
Yes you can. Griffin Twin powers, activate!
