If the Seattle Seahawks aren’t going to interview anyone new or hire an offensive coordinator any time soon, we might as well turn Field Gulls into Pete Carroll Central. After all, there is the chance that Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders rebuild involves taking people from the Seahawks’ existing roster or coaching staff.
Tashan Reed, The Athletic’s beat writer, has the early insight on the Raiders’ coaching staff search. As you might expect, a lot of former Seahawks assistants under the Carroll era have been speculated for offensive and defensive coordinator. Reed’s article also notes that, “Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell is the likeliest candidate to land the Raiders’ OC job, according to a league source.”
Bevell’s last offensive coordinator job was with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021, which was the ill-fated Urban Meyer season. His previous OC position was with Matt Patricia’s Detroit Lions from 2019 to 2020. In both instances since leaving the Seahawks, Bevell went from OC to interim head coach after midseason firings of the head coach. Bevell has since served as Miami’s pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
When Carroll was hired by the Seahawks in 2010, he brought in Jeremy Bates as a first-time offensive coordinator and swiftly fired him for Bevell, who remained Seattle’s playcaller until 2017.
If you want to talk about getting the band back together, Reed also reported that former Seahawks assistant head coach, offensive line coach, and run game coordinator Tom Cable “is a candidate to become the offensive line coach.” Cable was Jon Gruden’s OL coach from 2018 to 2021 and hasn’t held an NFL job since Gruden’s departure.
All of this is to say that it will not be surprising if a lot of Carroll’s staff is comprised of Seahawks assistants from yesteryear.
