Real Madrid have been going through a difficult stretch in recent weeks, suffering elimination from the UEFA Champions League and a defeat to FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. Amid this critical moment, star midfielder Federico Valverde delivered an emotional message to the fans.

Valverde has become one of the most respected voices in Real Madrid’s locker room and has been a standout performer during the 2024–25 season. The Uruguayan star took to social media to address the team’s struggles, opening up about his emotions:

“It happened again. And it will surely happen many more times, because it’s part of the path we’re building, and it’s normal to fall after so many miles. It makes me sad; it fills me with anger and frustration. I feel like I’m letting you down,” started his message on his Instagram account.

The midfielder also reflected on the demands of representing Real Madrid, regardless of the circumstances: “It’s been a tough year — physically and mentally very demanding — but one day I made it clear: ‘Until my legs can’t carry me anymore.’ This club deserves nothing less.

“We’ll come back, we’ll keep fighting, and I’ll be there giving everything out of respect for Madrid, its people, and everything that comes with playing for the most successful club in history. Thank you,” Valverde ended his message.

La Liga: Real Madrid’s last chance for silverware

Despite their recent struggles, Real Madrid had secured two trophies earlier this season: the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta and the Intercontinental Cup against Pachuca. However, the second half of the 2024–25 campaign has been far more challenging for the Spanish giants.

March was a particularly difficult month, with Real Madrid suffering elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Arsenal and losing the Copa del Rey final to Barcelona. Now, La Liga represents their final chance to win another trophy this season — but the odds are slim. With three games remaining, Los Blancos sit on 72 points, trailing Barcelona by four points, making their title hopes increasingly remote.
