Manchester United have found themselves in more difficulties with their fans after a significant number of Rangers supporters got into the home section of the Old Trafford crowd.

United defeated the Gers 2-1 after a late goal from Bruno Fernandes put the home side in an excellent position to qualify automatically for the last 16 directly.

There was a great atmosphere in the ground all night as the Glaswegians travelled in droves to the match but it was apparently not just the away end that had a significant Rangers following.

Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst posted on X last night that “some fans are on the other side of the steward segregation (ie. in the home section) in the east stand are clapping along to the Rangers chant in the away end. Could be a lively night on the terraces.”

The journalist also posted that there were Rangers fans “all over the place” in the home stadium.

Luckhurst also posted that his friends had said there had been violence between the two sets of fans and that it “all kicked off” at one point with the police having to get involved.

Three messages from three friends here tonight in different areas of the ground:’Kicked off from every angle immediately after Rangers.”Police running around in the concourse of the north stand after the game.”Saw four get a kicking at HT in the concourse and thrown out.’…

This is not the first time this has happened as during Galatasaray’s 3-2 win at Old Trafford 15 months ago, there were numerous travelling Turks who had made their way into the home crowd.

The club launched an investigation into those events and have responded this time around as well.

United released a statement claiming, “tickets were only allocated to people who existed on our database prior to the draw taking place in August. Hospitality tickets had the same restrictions applied.”

“Whilst the unauthorised touting of tickets has become more difficult since our introduction of in-app digital ticketing, it cannot be completely eliminated.”

The club also promised that the situation will be investigated and that there will be serious ramifications for those registered holders who gave up their ticket.

It is another embarrassing moment for Ineos in what has been a challenging few months for their image as owners of the football club.
